Since a long time residents of Goa had to leave their beautiful place of origin in search of a livelihood. Goans have one of the largest non Goan communities abroad. It is said for every one Goan in Goa, there is one abroad. Besides that there are a number of Goans in the cities of Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkatta, Delhi as well as other parts of India. Also a large number of Goans are working on ships as seafarers. What makes all these Goans move out is the lack of opportunities in Goa to earn a decent living. The dearths of industries and businesses in Goa with an exception of a few, fail to provide adequate jobs to Goans.

However, now all that has changed with the advent of information technology and communication. With more and more operations and systems going online, the way business is being done has changed. One can now stay in Goa and work for a Company anywhere in the world, be it London, New York, California, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, etc. It is called telecommunicating. Nowadays, a number of jobs such as data entry, medical transcription, research assistance, insurance claims processing, mortgage loans processing, accounting, web designing, software development and programming, project reports, customer marketing and support services, financial services, technical services, etc. Further a number of entrepreneurial opportunities in terms of call centers, back offices, business process outsourcing (BPOs) and knowledge process outsourcing (KPOs) are available.

Goa has already made a beginning in information technology (IT) and information technology enabled space (ITES) with laying of foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat Park at Dona Paula by Ms. Sonia Gandhi. A large number of leading software companies from India as well as abroad are planning to set shop in Goa. Also land acquisition is under way in the villages of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Pompurba in Bardez taluka in North Goa. With these recent developments a lot can be expected in the software space.

Further, the policies of the local government of provide students with personal computers at highly subsidized cost (almost free) has resulted in a very high penetration of computers amongst the population of Goa and resulted in an increased computer literacy. This has resulted in a number of opportunities to work at home on a part time or full time basis or make some extra money by everyone, be he or she, an entrepreneur, a housewife, a businessman, a businesswoman, a freelancer, an engineer, a student, a technician, etc.
These opportunities are available through a number of specialized sites such as www.pcworkathome.in which provide a collection of jobs and assignments which can be done by you from home that range.
