Since a long time residents of Goa had to leave their beautiful place of origin in search of a livelihood. Goans have one of the largest non Goan communities abroad. Goa has already made a beginning in information technology (IT) and information technology enabled space (ITES) with laying of foundation stone for the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat Park at Dona Paula by Ms. Sonia Gandhi. A large number of leading software companies from India as well as abroad are planning to set shop in Goa. Also land acquisition is under way in the villages of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Pompurba in Bardez taluka in North Goa. With these recent developments a lot can be expected in the software space.

Further, the policies of the local government of provide students with personal computers at highly subsidized cost (almost free) has resulted in a very high penetration of computers amongst the population of Goa and resulted in an increased computer literacy. This has resulted in a number of opportunities to work at home on a part time or full time basis or make some extra money by everyone, be he or she, an entrepreneur, a housewife, a businessman, a businesswoman, a freelancer, an engineer, a student, a technician, etc.
